Therapists

Therapy works best when it feels like a real conversation between two humans, so here’s a little about us as both therapists and humans.

We are warm, relational therapists who believe people heal through honesty, insight, and meaningful connection. We are not the kind of therapist who just nods and says “mm-hmm.” We will ask thoughtful questions, challenge you when it’s helpful, and say the hard things if we think they matter for your growth. Our goal is always to be honest and supportive at the same time. We are also comfortable with depth. Spiritually oriented and interested in the bigger questions people carry about meaning, identity, purpose, and how to live a life that feels aligned. Sometimes that shows up through conversation about existential questions, sometimes through reflection and symbolism, and sometimes through simply allowing quiet moments in the room. Silence can be meaningful too.

Meet Emanuela Buchalter

A Little About Me

I’m Emanuela Buchalter, LMFT or “E” for short. I’m an EMDR-trained, relational, integrative psychotherapist who believes therapy should feel both meaningful and human. My style is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. Something important about me: I am not a blank slate therapist. This means I bring myself into the room! I strive to balance gentle curiosity with honest inquiry. Sometimes, it will be important for me to gently nudge, challenge, and confront the hard things - but we’ll always take it at a pace that feels approachable.

My Approach

My approach is integrative, which means I adapt therapy to the person in front of me rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. I draw from psychodynamic, relational gestalt, somatic, trauma-informed, multicultural, and spiritual perspectives depending on what feels most helpful for you.

  • My Experience

Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working in substance use and mental health treatment, both inpatient and outpatient. That experience gave me a lot of respect for the complexity of addiction, trauma, and survival. I’ve worked extensively with people navigating complex trauma, addiction and harm reduction, and many adult children of alcoholics who are trying to understand the patterns they grew up with and how those patterns show up in their relationships today.I also really enjoy working with teens, especially those navigating ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and the intense pressures that can come with adolescence. Teen years can be confusing, overwhelming, and full of big emotions, and I aim to create a space where teens feel respected, understood, and supported while learning how to better understand themselves.

  • My Clients

While I work with many different people, there are certain clients I especially love working with. If you’re someone who intellectualizes everything and lives mostly in your head, we’ll probably have good conversations. If you’re someone who struggles with people pleasing or putting everyone else first, we might have important work to do. I also really enjoy working with couples who want to get better at conflict and communication, including couples in nontraditional relationship structures. I have a deep appreciation for working with queer clients and with first-generation Americans navigating identity, family expectations, and belonging.

  • My Values & Mission

At the end of the day, I believe therapy should feel thoughtful, real, and human. There can be seriousness, humor, insight, and moments of quiet all in the same session. My hope is to create a space where you feel understood enough to explore the parts of yourself that need attention, care, and change. And if we discover along the way that you overthink everything, avoid conflict, and still want to understand yourself deeply, you’re probably in the right place.

Meet Joshua Buchalter

A Little About Me

Hello, my name is Josh, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist! When I am not working or participating in trainings, I am a huge nerd and lifelong kid at heart. I am an avid sci-fi and fantasy reader. I love catching up on shows, going to see movies, and playing games—all kinds! Video, card, tabletop, board, dice, you name it.

I frequently take breaks throughout my day to go out into the backyard and play fetch with my dog. I cherish those moments because I get to connect with her and also add an intentional grounding pause to my day.

I love food, whether that means going out to try new restaurants or whipping up meals at home. I also love stand-up comedy and going to see comics perform. Humor and laughter really are some of the best medicines!

I was born and raised on the West Coast in beautiful Los Angeles. There is nothing quite like being out in the sun, feeling the wind on my skin, and listening to the sounds of the ocean.

While there is no place like home, I am also a big fan of traveling! I love experiencing other countries, cultures, and cuisines, and learning what makes all of humanity connected yet different at the same time.

  • My Approach

I mainly utilize a relational Gestalt approach but also integrate aspects of other modalities into my work, such as Psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, Narrative, IFS, and Solution-Focused.

I believe that one of the primary contributing factors to successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship: the genuine and meaningful connection between you and your therapist. My goal is to help you feel heard and seen, embrace your willingness to be vulnerable, and meet you where you are at. I want to validate your lived experience while also inviting you to reflect inward with gentle curiosity, encouraging questioning, exploration, and meaning making along the way.

Empathy and reflective listening are also absolutely necessary. It is so vital to not only feel heard but understood. We all want to have at least one person in our lives who gets us.

I hope to be that person for you as we work together to better understand yourself, navigate life's challenges, and explore what might be keeping you stuck.

  • My Experience

I gained much of my clinical experience working at a dual diagnosis treatment facility in Los Angeles, supporting people navigating mental health challenges and substance use. Prior to that, I completed an internship at a local family community center while in graduate school.

I have also received specialized training in Relational Gestalt therapy, an approach that emphasizes awareness, authentic connection, and understanding ourselves through our relationships and experiences.

Throughout my clinical work, I have been privileged to meet, form relationships, and work with so many different people of all ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. These experiences have helped shape the therapist I am today and reinforced how important it is to approach every person with curiosity, empathy, and an open mind.

  • My Values & Mission

If we end up working together, there will be plenty of time for us to get to know each other better.

But for now, here are a few things you can expect: meaningful connection, curiosity, vulnerability, questions, emotions (the good, the bad, and the ugly), and a very healthy dose of humor sprinkled throughout.

My hope is that therapy can be a place where you feel comfortable showing up as yourself, even when things are difficult or messy. We can explore the hard stuff together, make room for some laughter along the way, and work toward a better understanding of yourself and the life you want to live.
